Toffifee

Two of these have been sitting in my fridge for a couple of weeks, after being brought back from Wales by my flatmate. A comment on Jim's Chocolate Mission reminded me about them, so thought it was time I fished 'em out! Due to them being given to me an envelope, I don't have a picture of the original box, but you can take a look at them over at the official website.

I can remember these as far back as I can - they always make me think of Woolworths as I don't think I have ever seen them sold anywhere else!

To describe them, they are a toffee shell, filled with a hazelnut, "nougat" and topped with a chocolate disc.

They don't contain the best quality chocolate (and nor do I expect them to at the price) and I am not sure why it is described as nougat (think more of a thick chocolate spread), but what they are is an interesting blend of textures - the chewiness of the toffee, the crunch of the nut and the smoothness of the chocolate. The toffee tastes like your typical cream toffee, with a nice smooth texture and is probably my favourite component of the sweet.

So altogether, nothing overwhelms anything else, no part is particularly "special", but what it is is quite moreish and very easy to eat, mostly because they are not too sweet, and therefore not too sickly. If you like chocolate, toffee and nuts, you will probably enjoy these - an inexpensive treat.

We get these in Canada and one year I got a box for Christmas. I'm not the biggest toffee fan, though, so they weren't my favourite.

Ahhhh yes I knew I had seen these somewhere - woolies it is! That place is an asbsolute goldmine!! Nice review...I dont think im going to be in too much of a rush to get hold of these they sound a tad average and not worth prioritising...still though I do like the look of the chocolate spread layer...that look a bit unique! That could just be your expert photopraphy though ;)

Yes - to be honest, I wouldn't have bought these as a priority, having had them before. But if people want to give me a couple, I am happy to talk about them!

A friend brought us some back from a trip away and we accidentally left them out in the sun. What a revelation! They go all melty and gooey. Utterly delicious. Great blog, by the way.

I haven't seen Toffifee in years! I loved them as a child, but for some reason you can't readily find them in the midwest of the U.S.

I've really enjoyed reading through your blog, but I don't know why I'm torturing myself because we aren't able to get many of your chocolates in the U.S. Pity. :(

(Welcome to Foodie Blogroll!)

I may have to find a penfriend to swap chocolate with in the US - then I can review some of your favourites too!!
